Grammy award winning saxophonist Joe Lovano and Brazilian singer/composer Luciana Souza come together for an evening celebrating one of the most romantic elements of the jazz repertoire — the ballad. Lovano brings his vocalist-like phrasings to renditions of Victor Young’s “Stella by Starlight,” John Coltrane’s “Countdown” and Thelonious Monk’s “Monk’s Mood.” Souza performs music from her Grammy nominated recordings Brazilian Duos and North and South as well as her compositions based upon the poetry of Pablo Neruda.
