
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Event: The Artist Series presents “First Person: Stories from the Edge of the World” at Macky Auditorium ARTIST SERIES PRESENTS COLLABORATION WITH ENSEMBLE GALILEI, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, AND NPR’S NEAL CONAN The CU Artist Series presents a special collaborative performance entitled First Person: Stories from the Edge of the World in Boulder’s Macky Auditorium Friday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. First Person: Stories from the Edge of the World is a collaboration between National Geographic, National Public Radio’s Neal Conan and Ensemble Galilei. The event features spectacular photographs projected on a large on-stage screen, Neal Conan and actress Lily Knight’s compelling narration of original texts by the world’s great explorers, and evocative music created specifically for this project. A pre-concert conversation with Dr. Julienne Stroeve of the National Snow and Ice Data Center will be held before the performance at 6:45 p.m. in Macky Room 102. This pre-concert event is free and open to the public. The Artist Series will also co-sponsor a panel discussion entitled “Music Meets Science” on Thursday, October 4 at 7 p.m. in the Wolf Law Building Courtroom on the CU-Boulder campus. The panel will feature founder of Ensemble Galilei Carolyn Anderson Surrick, CU-Boulder College of Music faculty member Steven Bruns, and schedule permitting, NOAA scientist James H. Butler in a wide ranging discussion about music and climate change. This event is presented by EcoArts and also co-sponsored by EESI, the Energy and Environmental Security Initiative. This panel discussion is free and open to the public. The Artist Series, now in its 71st season, has a rich tradition of bringing the finest performers in the world to Boulder’s Macky Auditorium. Recent performers on the series have included James Galway, Hilary Hahn, and Bobby McFerrin. In addition to serving audiences with an exciting variety of performances, the Artist Series has an important educational mission, including outreach events planned in conjunction with almost every concert.
