LATIN JAZZ GREAT ARTURO SANDOVAL
TO PERFORM IN BOULDER

The CU Artist Series presents a performance by Arturo Sandoval in Boulder’s Macky Auditorium Thursday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. Cuban-born trumpeter Arturo Sandoval was a protégé of the legendary Dizzy Gillespie and a founder of the ground-breaking band Irakere. Winner of four Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards and an Emmy, Sandoval is internationally recognized as one of the most important figures in Latin jazz and a phenomenal classical trumpeter as well. Mr. Sandoval will be joined on the stage by drummer Alexis Arce, percussionist Tomas Cruz, pianist Dave Siegel, saxophonist Felip Lamoglia, and bassist Armando Gola. A pre-concert conversation with CU-Boulder Director of Jazz Studies John Davis will be held before the performance at 6:45 p.m. in Macky Room 102. This pre-concert event is free and open to the public."

A clinic with Arturo Sandoval will be held on Friday, September 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. in Grusin Music Hall in the Imig Music Building. This event is free and open to the public for observation.

The Artist Series, now in its 71st season, has a rich tradition of bringing the finest performers in the world to Boulder’s Macky Auditorium. Recent performers on the series have included James Galway, Hilary Hahn, and Bobby McFerrin. In addition to serving audiences with an exciting variety of performances, the Artist Series has an important educational mission, including outreach events planned in conjunction with almost every concert.
